"The Golden Eagle in the Eastern Alps" exhibition
"The Golden Eagle in the Eastern Alps" is a special exhibition presented on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. The traveling exhibition, "The Golden Eagle in the Eastern Alps," was made available by the Hohe Tauern National Park and is the result of a four-year research project on this powerful bird of prey. As part of an INTERREG IIIA project, the Hohe Tauern National Park and four other protected areas in Italy tried to count the number of eagles in their regions and document their nesting habits, successful reproduction and choice of prey while breeding. The results of the study are presented in this traveling exhibition. It also provides information on other general topics of interest such as the biology, past and protection of this raptor.
Today the eagle population in the Alps is not endangered, having grown to 1,300 pairs. Currently there are an estimated 350 breeding pairs In Austria. Large protected areas such as the Hohe Tauern National Park continue to be important for the golden eagle, since they balance and stabilize the eagle populations in other regions.
