48 kilometers of pure driving pleasure

Those driving from Zell am See to the northern cash point on the Grossglockner Road are "missing out" on the first kilometers of road. The road historically begins in the town center of  Bruck, at Gasthof Lukashansl on the Salzach Bridge, location of the zero milestone. Attentive drivers will discover milestone 1 at the junction with the B311 federal road. Road markers are usually installed every 200 meters to indicate the precise location. Hairpin bends and other attractions are marked by blue signs that also indicate the altitude.

After leaving Bruck, the road curves through meadows with the "Fuscher Ache" river flowing on the left. The towns of Bruck and Fusch changed the addendum to their names after the road was built: instead of adding "im Pinzgau“ (in the Pinzgau region), they have used the much more attractive addendum "an der Glocknerstrasse" (on the Glockner Road) since the 1930's. The Grossglockner Hochalpenstrassen AG management is located on the left when leaving Fusch, near the Bärenwerk Power Plant at milestone 9. An avalanche barrier is located shortly afterwards, at the Weiler Embach Chapel at an altitude of 863 meters. The road is closed in winter from this point and this is where the Grossglockner Hochalpenstrassen AG's area of responsibility begins.

The route is described in the brochure "The Grossglockner - Bikers Heaven" with dream tours of the Hohe Tauern National Park. The free brochure is available at all ADAC and ÖAMTC offices, at the Grossglockner High Alpine Road cash points, at the Gerlos Alpine Road, the Nockalm Road and the Malta High Alpine Road (while supplies last).
