The Grossglockner – bikers heaven
Convenient ticket purchase
The Grossglockner Road winds steadily uphill after the avalanche barrier. The Ferleiten cash point is located four kilometers further on (1,142 m), marking the widest part of the Ferleiten Valley, surrounded by glaciers. The cash point has a special service for bikers: information on detailed biker routes and the corresponding tickets are available at "Bikers Info" to the right of the drive-through lanes. An extra ticket counter is open during peak periods."Bikers Point" Edelweiss Peak
After 28 kilometers of road, just before reaching the "Fuscher Törl" gate, the road forks off to the left to the 2,571-meter Edelweiss Peak. The seven hairpin bends and the cobblestone pavement date back to the year of construction in 1935. The observation tower was added in 1955. The Grossglockner summit can be seen for the first time at this point. You will also find "Bikers Point" here – at the best photo and vantage point on the northern side – offering a panoramic view of over 30 (1) 3,000 m peaks. Bikers will find a reserved park area "in the front row“ with tables and benches, signboards providing information on the landscape and other bike tours as well as tips for biker-friendly accommodations in the extremely rugged mountains. The "Bikers Nest“ provides information on the glorious days of mountain races."Biker safes"
A special rest area for bikers can be found at the southern end of the Hochtor Tunnel. Special "biker safes" are available where you can leave your helmets and jackets while you walk the trails once used by Celts, muleskinners and Romans.Bikers will also find a special service at Kaiser Franz Josefs Höhe (2,369 m): a separate parking area. "Biker safes“ are also available for helmets and jackets and other gear.
