Adventure worlds and exhibitions in the heart of the Nockberge

The Nockalm Road, nestled within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Nockberge, offers not only breathtaking views and gentle curves, but also a variety of fascinating adventure worlds and exhibitions. These invite visitors to experience the nature, history, and culture of the region up close.

Nockalmhof Biosphere reserve center
Just three kilometers from Innerkrems, directly on the Nockalm Road, lies the Nockalmhof. This center is home to the unique fossil exhibition “Petrified Worlds", which provides insights into the prehistoric past of the region. An interactive children’s exhibition on the topic of bats, as well as a multimedia and 3D cinema, round off the experience. 

Adventure exhibition “Wild Nocky Mountains” 
At the Pfandlhütte, visitors can explore the “Wild Nocky Mountains” exhibition. Here, the wild inhabitants of the Nockberge mountains such as wolves, chamois and red deer are presented. Interactive stations make this exhibition an exciting experience, especially for families.

Alpine farming Museum Zechneralm
The Alpine Farming Museum in the Zechneralm provides an impressive insight into the hard but fulfilling life of mountain farmers in the past. Regional products can be purchased and tasted at the neighbouring farmers' market. Children can enjoy the nearby adventure playground located right next to the museum.

Exhibition “Trees as Survivalists” at the Grundalm
The Grundalm hosts the exhibition “Trees as Survivalists”, dedicated to the three main tree species of the Nockberge – larch, spruce, and stone pine. Through interactive displays, visitors learn about the special characteristics and survival strategies of these trees. A walk through the adjacent enchanted forest “Silva Magica” enhances the nature experience.

Glockenhütte at the Schiestlscharte
A visit to the Glockenhütte is worthwhile not only for the legendary wishing bell at the Schiestlscharte, but also for the exhibition “The window to the Biosphere Reserve”. This exhibition presents the region’s history and highlights its development into today’s biosphere park, where humans and nature live in harmony.

Nature Trail “Alpine Communities” at Windebensee 
The picturesque Windebensee is surrounded by the nature trail “Alpine Communities”. Along this 20-minute circular route, information baords provide interesting insights into the flora and fauna of the region. Particularly impressive are the numerous stone pines growing in the surrounding forests. A 400-meter path leads from the Windebensee up to the Glockenhütte (walking time approx. 15 minutes).

“Path of the Elements”
A mystical highlight along the Nockalm Road is the 1.5-kilometer circular trail called the “Path of the Elements”. This interactive experience trail leads visitors through stone circles and guided exercises that connect them directly with the elements wood, light, air, earth, water, and stone. All the senses are engaged: hearing, seeing, tasting, smelling, and touching allow visitors to fully immerse themselves in the richness of nature.


Admission to all the exhibitions along the Nockalm Road is free of charge. The exhibitions are open daily from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm (extended hours are possible in good weather).
