All information, including when the road is open, ticket prices … The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is open from the start of May until the start of November. In the winter months the High Alpine Road is closed since it is impassable due to the amount of snow. Ticket prices depend entirely on which vehicle you want to use on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.

Please check the current road conditions before driving. If ‘winter equipment’ is required, this means that only vehicles with winter tyres (or snow chains) are permitted on the road. All-weather tyres are only permitted if they bear the special snowflake symbol (3PMSF).

The day ticket for cars is reduced to 35,00 € for trips after 6.00 p.m.
E-car = electric car (100 %) and hydrogen car, not a hybrid vehicle. It is the responsibility of the driver to indicate that the vehicle is electric or hydrogen-powered in order to receive the discounted e-fare. As proof, the driver may be asked to show the registration certificate at the ticket office. A subsequent refund is not possible.

Includes a day ticket for the Grossglockner, Gerlos and Nockalm Road and entitles you to purchase a reduced ticket at a price of EUR 13,00 for the Villacher Alpine Road. Available at the cash points on the individual roads and in advance sales at the ÖAMTC, ARBÖ and ADAC branches at a price of EUR 49,00.
Motor home

The category "car" includes motor homes up to 3500 kg maximum gross vehicle weight (GVWR) and caravan combinations with a towing vehicle up to 3500 kg GVWR.
Motor homes and caravans from 3500 kg to 7500 kg GVWR are categorized as "Truck 1"; vehicles over 7500 kg GVWR are categorized as "Truck 2".

Up to 6 passenger or empty bus costs EUR 45,00. The return trip on the same day is free of charge. Children in the age of 6-15 years, accept of groups of pupils (up to the age of 18, the child rate will be charged).

EXPLANATION OF THE BUS PRICES

Bus prices are based on the actual number of passengers carried (but not below the minimum price), excluding the driver and one tour guide. However, the cashier may check the vehicle to verify this information. If the specified number of persons is incorrect, then instead of the group rate, the adult rate will be charged for the actual number of seats stated in the vehicle’s registration certificate. For group trips of schoolchildren or adolescents up to the age of 18, the child rate will be charged. One accompanying adult is free per 10 children.

Additional important information 

  • The road can be used several times on the same day with a day ticket – that is, at the cash desks at the entry and exit areas.  
  • If you are staying the night in accommodation along the road, you do not have to pay extra at the exit point – even after a longer stay. 
  • Outside opening hours, there is an official ban on night-time driving!
  • Camping is not permitted by the authorities along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road and there are no approved camp sites in the direct vicinity of the road. 
  • Your licence plate is automatically captured via video camera at the cash points.
  • Discounts cannot be combined (e.g. e-tariff, guest card, etc.)

From 1st July 2024, the following prices will apply for the car park at the Ferleiten cash point:
