Look at the mountains instead of damming up tunnels

article as from 11 . September 2023

From 12 September 2023 to June 2024, ASFINAG is renewing five tunnels on the Tauern motorway (A10) between Golling and Werfen and upgrading the safety equipment to the latest state of the art. The work may cause delays and traffic jams in tourist traffic.

But because we believe that holidays and relaxation should start at the front door and continue while you're on the road, we have an idea for you: How about "looking at mountains instead of traffic jams in tunnels"! With easy-going curve cruising instead of slow-moving construction site traffic? With wonderful views instead of gloomy tunnels? With unforgettable encounters with cute marmots instead of the sight of grumpy traffic jam drivers? Then take the route via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road on your way south - or back home!

And this is how it works: Simply drive in Salzburg in the direction of Bad Reichenhall via the so-called "Little German Corner". Then straight back to Austria towards Lofer, on to Zell am See and Fusch on the Grossglockner Road. And then: enjoy! The Grossglockner High Alpine Road! Austria's most beautiful panorama road! Once back down on the Carinthian side, it's off to Heiligenblut through the Mölltal valley and on to Spittal an der Drau, where you return to the motorway.

On the motorway, the journey from Salzburg to Spittal an der Drau takes about 2 hours - ideally! Not counting the extra time in queue traffic or even traffic jams. That quickly adds up to an extra hour or two ... Of course, the route via the Grossglockner High Alpine Road takes more time. But it also has more to offer! Above all, a relaxed journey and arrival. And that cannot be calculated in time!

We look forward to seeing you!

P.S.: The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is open until the end of October 2023 and then closes for the winter closure. The current opening hours and all other information can be found at www.grossglockner.at.
