Tour de Austria Dobratsch stage
Challenging mountain prize for pros and wonderful bike trail for everyone
When the final, tough 16.5 kilometres are waiting for the participants of the Tour of Austria, which takes place every year in July, they’ve already won a mountain title and covered numerous kilometres of road. The maximum incline of ten percent saps the cyclists’ energy reserves and shows who has the calf muscles required to be overall winner. Experience international first-class cycling close up as part of the audience – cheering on is allowed and desirable! The competition on the Villach Alpine Road is only one of several contests. The Tour de Austria demands everything from its participants on eight extreme stages – the winners truly are exceptional athletes. However, the enticing mountain road isn’t just a hit for pros, but also for amateur cyclists!
Cycling in Austria – the Villach Alpine RoadLet’s be honest, this route is no Sunday school picnic. You need to have the proper fitness level, riding technique and a love for challenging mountain trails when tackling the ride from Villach-Möltschach up to the Rosstratte. While there are 1,200 altitude metres to cover, numerous resting spots along the panoramic road allow you to take a breather and enjoy the view of the surroundings. You can scale the Villach Alpine Road with a racing bike or mountain bike, as the 6 m wide lane offers maximum safety and riding comfort. Tip: cyclists can ride on the Villach Alpine Road for free!

The bike takes a break and you can enjoy the view of the city of Villach and the Carinthian lake district!

Time for a break and a quick drink with the most beautiful view of Austria, Italy and Slovenia!
• Car park P6 Alpengarten and lookout platform “Rote Wand” (1,483 m)
Visit the Alpengarten Dobratsch with 800 plants (separate admission) and go on a little walk to the lookout platform giving you a clear view of the rockslide area on the Dobratsch.
• Car park P11 Rosstratte (1,732 m)
Your final destination during a bike tour to the Dobratsch! If you like, you can now explore the geological trail or hike up to the Dobratsch summit with two of the highest pilgrimage churches of the Eastern Alps. Enjoy the view and delicious Carinthian delicacies on the sun terrace of the Rosstrattenstüberl.
