The Villach Alpine Road leads from the district of Villach-Möltschach up to the Rosstratte, the destination on the Dobratsch, over 16.5 km. The consistently 6 m wide lane and the easily manageable turns and bends ensure relaxed driving and offer guests an experience in nature beyond compare. The maximum incline of ten percent and approx. 1,200 altitude metres are no challenge whatsoever for modern buses. Plan the duration of your stay on the Villach Alpine Road as you see fit. Several attractions can be checked out depending on have much time you have to spare. The net driving time from the pay desk to the Rosstratte car park is 30 minutes.

The most beautiful destinations for bus tour guests along the Villach Alpine Road

There are always parking spots for several buses at all main attractions of the panoramic road as well as other facilities (find further details at the individual venues).
•    Alpengarten on the Dobratsch (1,483 m, car park P6 for five buses)
Around 800 alpine plants from three different climes grow on an area of around 10,000 m². Approximately half of the plants are native to the Dobratsch. Only a few minutes’ walk from the car park; time required for a visit around an hour. Separate admission (discounted group price from nine persons), opening hours from late May to late August every day from 9 am to 6 pm.

•    Lookout platform “Rote Wand” (also car park P6)
A brief walk leads from the car park to the platform facilitating a 400 m view across the abyss of the rock wall and a great view of the Julian Alps and the Karawanks.
•    Aichingerhütte mountain inn with exhibition “Herrscher der Lüfte” (Eng. “Rulers of the skies”) (1,650 m, car park P8 for three buses, WC, gastronomy, shop, children’s playground)
Offer your bus tour guests the opportunity to visit the exhibition about bird life at Dobratsch nature park, which opened in 2011. Numerous interactive stations, natural park information point, gorgeous lake view. Time for visit around 20 minutes.

•    Rosstratte (1,732 m, car park P11 for four buses, barrier-free WC, gastronomy)
There are several options at the final destination of the Villach Alpine Road. You might go on a brief walk to the lookout plateau or hike to the Dobratsch summit with two of the highest pilgrimage churches of the Eastern Alps. The chamois and summit view platform, which can be reached within a 20-minute walk, are particularly enticing. Bus travellers are welcome at the Rosstrattenstüberl mountain inn; numerous Carinthian delicacies are on the menu.
