Hiking on the Dobratsch from spring to late autumn

There are hiking trails for every season and interest on the Dobratsch – gentle routes along the Gail, family-friendly paths through forests and meadows or steep tracks for sure-footed and experienced mountain hikers. Many paths end or begin at the huts and mountain inns on the Dobratsch, which impress guests of all ages with their charm, sunny terraces and delicious Carinthian treats. Tip: discover the hiking trails in the summit area and enjoy the view of lakes, the Julian Alps, Karawanks and Nockberge. While cold autumn days result in atmospheric inversion in the valley with tenacious fog, the sun is shining on the Dobratsch! Comfortably reach the starting points for your walks and hikes via the Villach Alpine Road.

Dobratsch nature park: unique and diverse region in Carinthia

The Dobratsch rises high above the confluence of the Gail and Drau, splitting the plains surrounding it like a wedge. It not only gives the alpenstock very special thermal lifts, but also an unbelievable number of native animal and plant species. The Dobratsch is a crossing point for various floral zones, but also a popular area for migratory birds, who skilfully use the updrafts for their journey to the south. Tip: visit the Alpengarten on the Villach’s panoramic road with its unique flora, and see birds of prey and songbirds or brisk chamois in the summit area! Hiking with a nature park ranger, who introduces you and your children to the protected habitat on the Dobratsch, is particularly rewarding.
